The uVU Design & Print Excellence Award
Most people get a little squeamish when “pro bono” is found in the same sentence as “work.” Woodruff Sweitzer is different. We see pro bono work as an opportunity to check our comfort zone at the door and venture into new realms of creative thinking we never thought possible. And, every once in a while, this kind of thinking lands us a national award.
Such was the case, in Fall 2015, when Unisource Canada presented Woodruff Sweitzer with the uVU Design & Print Excellence Award for our creative work on the Beaumont Blues & Roots Festival. The weekend-long, two-stage festival has been bringing together Canada’s top musical talent in a little town just outside of Edmonton, AB, to celebrate high-quality live music since 2008.
In 2015, Woodruff Sweitzer partnered up with the Beaumont Blues & Roots Festival to give their promotional materials a fun, eye-catching new look in an effort to appeal to a younger generation of music lovers. The posters selected for the uVU award featured work from a talented local illustrator paired with a trio of neon colors. Although each poster could easily stand alone, offset printing allowed for the illustrations to span across all three iterations when tiled – as festival posters often are – to reflect the communal, free-flowing nature of the Beaumont Blues & Roots Festival.
Woodruff Sweitzer is honored to have received this award from Unisource Canada and is determined to continue raising the bar for award-winning execution. Director of Strategic Planning Susan Groeneveld says, “This is exactly how we should be using pro bono: to flex our creative muscles and find out what’s possible.”
